Starting the Champions Trophy 2017 was Group A where England and Bangladesh faced each other in match one. England’s captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and selected to field first. Bangladesh will get of to a good start losing two wickets with 96 runs on the board. However, with the combination of captain Tamim Iqbal and wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim, they had a 3rd wicket partnership of 166 runs. Eventually, Iqbal scored the opening century of the Champions Trophy getting 128 runs which included 14 fours and 3 sixes. After the 50 overs Bangladesh put a grand total of 305 for the fall of 6 wickets, with Moeen Ali being the top wicket taker for England.
Moving on to the England’s run chase, Bangladesh will claim the early wicket of Jason Roy for just 1 run in the 3rd over. In came Joe Root to join opener Alex Hales and they will steady the England’s ship comfortable. With the combination of Root and Hales, they will put on a massive 2nd wicket partnership of 159 runs. Eventually, Hales will depart on a well played 95, England 165-2. However, this won’t stop Root as he and captain Eoin Morgan continued to flourish England’s run chase. No more wickets will fall for England as they finished the match in style in 47.5 overs, with Joe Root ending on 133 and Eoin Morgan ending on 75 not out.
Overall, it was a good opening game for the tournament. Looking forward to tomorrow’s game where Group A action continue with Australia facing New Zealand in match 2.
