WI vs IND Series – 3rd ODI

Although, there was a 45 minutes delay in the start of the 3rd ODI between the West Indies and India there was a full game played. Today was a great day for two players as they debuted in their first ODI, these players were Kyle Hope who is the older brother of wicketkeeper Shai Hope and Kesrick Williams. Winning the toss on a damp pitch the home side won the toss and elected to field first.

The bowlers started off really good removing Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli early in the innings, India batting 2-34. Opener Ajinkya Rahane and Yuvraj Singh got the Indians back on track with their batting.

Devendra Bishoo got the breakthrough for the Windies in then 27th over trapping Singh for lbw, he departed on 39 runs. In came one of my favourite Indian players, MS Dhoni who flourished the innings, with some good running in between the wickets and getting the occasional boundaries. Rahane was dismissed in the 43rd over after he skied one, where Bishoo took a diving catch to remove him, he went for a well played 72 runs. Kedar Jadhav and Dhoni added 91 runs from the remaining 7.4 overs off the innings, frustrating the Windies bowlers. After starting off slow and some great bowling displayed by the West Indian bowlers, the Indians managed to get 251-4 from their 50 overs. Top scoring for the Indians was Dhoni who made 78 remaining not out, leading the bowlers for the Windies was Miguel Cummins, 2-56 from his 10 overs.

On to the West Indians innings now, all I could say is, the Indian spinners totally destroyed the Windies batting lineup. Umesh Yadav got things going for the Indians removing opener Evin Lewis after knocking his wicket over. The combination of Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya removed 3 quick wickets, Windies batting 4-69. Destruction continued for the Windies as Holder was stumped by Dhoni, although his feet was over the line it wasn’t grounded, West Indies 5-87 from 19.3 overs. Rovman Powell and Jason Mohammed started to give the innings for the Windies some momentum by playing patiently. This pair added 54 runs together, until Powell played a careless shot and was dismissed for 30 runs inclusive of 5 4s. From here on there was no coming back for the Windies as they were dismissed for 158 all out from 38.1 overs, India winning by 93 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav were the pick of the bowlers for the Indians both claiming three wickets each.

Action continues on Sunday 2nd July, hoping my West Indies team can get a win.
